Wall Street Journal Creating New “LinkedIn Killer” Called WSJ Connect

The Wall Street Journal has been working on a new social network, to be called WSJ Connect, TechCrunch reports: “They’ve enlisted the help of another arm of parent company News Corp. – Slingshot Labs. And yes, they call it “LinkedIn Killer” internally.”

A growing newsroom: AOL now has 1,500 writers

AOL now has 1,500 people writing content across its scores of content sub-brands, about 1,000 of which are full-time, TechCrunch reports. The writers include former journalists at BusinessWeek, New York Times, USA Today, ESPN, Washington Post, Wall Street Journal, Forbes, Consumer Reports, Condé Nast and scores of regional and national newspapers and magazines.

New York Times Wins $10,000 Knight-Batten Prize

The New York Times swept top honors in the 2009 Knight-Batten Awards for Innovations in Journalism with six striking entries that netted the $10,000 Grand Prize for a dynamic body of work in the past year. Associated Press to build news registry to protect content

The Associated Press Board of Directors today directed The Associated Press to create a news registry that will tag and track all AP content online to assure compliance with terms of use. The system will register key identifying information about each piece of content that AP distributes as well as the terms of use of that content, and employ a built-in beacon to notify AP about how the content is used.
