A vision for participatory journalism

“Media organizations have resources at its behest, reporters, photographers, videographers, etc,” says Shayne Bowman, “We Media” author, in a Q&A on PJNet.org. “Editors will be maintaining those, but now, the audience can contribute to this story with their own grassroots reporting, commentary, photos, video and audio…as well other news agencies will be reporting on the story.

“Editors should begin to assemble all of this information into a new space that is more powerful and compelling than just a flat straight new story. If they engaged the conversation of the audience, sense-making would flourish; from both directions, some audience members are excellent at sense-making or at least, identifying when something doesn’t make sense.”
