Backfence launches

Backfence.com, the much-heralded hyper-local citizen-journalism effort, has launched in its first two communities, Reston and McLean, Va. Users are encouraged to use the site to publicize events, find and rate local businesses, share tips and photos with neighbors and post classified ads.

The site says everyone who uses the site is bound by a legally binding “Community Agreement.” Among other things, it says, “By posting content to Backfence.com, you represent and agree that (i) you are the owner of the content, or otherwise have the right to post such content to this site, (ii) the content is accurate, (iii) the content will not violate the rights of or cause injury to any person or entity, and (iv) you will indemnify Backfence for any claims resulting from content that you submit to the site.”
