Boston.com launched a community Web site for Newton, Mass., a suburb of Boston, and has plans to roll out more, E&P reports.
“Each of the Boston.com community sites will be a digital town center where residents can learn about what is happening in their town, contribute helpful information, and share their views,” Robert Kempf, vice president, product at Boston.com, said in a statement. “The site also provides a new cost-effective advertising opportunity for local businesses to reach a very targeted audience with a highly interactive environment.”
The community sites cover local events, schools, sports, real estate, as well as host an online forum for discussions.
Other newspapers across the country have launched hyper local community sites, like Loudoun.com from The Washington Post.
