A couple of interesting citizen media projects are pulling together photos and video of people voting and monitoring for problems at the polls.

• Video the Vote: “Goal is to protect the vote by being the eyes and ears where ballots are cast and counted on Election Day. We will document and report any irregularities that occur at polling places and boards of elections while they are happening, enabling the media and public to watch-dog the electoral process across our country.”

• Polling Place Photo Project: “A nationwide experiment in citizen journalism that seeks to empower citizens to capture, post and share photographs of democracy in action…. The project intends to collect photographs of every polling place in America.”

• Veek the Vote: Displays video shot by people’s mobile phones. People can include the video in their web sites, like this:

    I haven’t checked out all parts of the citizen journalism, but “video the vote” is just great. Citizen journalism may just put a crimp in plans of any politicians who want to steal votes…once we learn how to use technology like this. Thanks for starting “video the vote.”

    See article about punched tab card systems are still the best way to vote. Tab cards were the mainstay of large and small businesses for many years. However, the data was considered to be raw data until verified in a second pass. A similar situation can be used in voting. The card can be punched by the voter and then the voter can view their selections on a simple screen and then click verified. There would then be two records of the event.
