CNN has shut down its Spanish-language new site, CNNenEspanol.com, because it wasn’t making money, replacing it with a TV promotional site.
“Like many companies, business conditions have forced us to rethink our interactive strategy, resulting in the streamlining or closing of services that are not viable financially,” the company said in a statement. “This decision regarding CNNenEspanol.com will allow us ultimately to serve our TV and radio audiences more effectively and efficiently by investing in those businesses with the greatest potential for growth. We certainly don’t rule out relaunching an Internet-based news site in the future, when financial conditions for interactive companies improve and new business models emerge.”
