This is huge: Scientists have created an incredibly thin screen that can be bent, twisted — even rolled up — and still display crisp text (see a picture). E Ink’s material is only as thick as three human hairs and displays black text on a whitish-gray background with a resolution similar to that of a typical laptop computer screen, The Associated Press reports. The screen is so flexible it can be rolled into a cylinder about a half-inch wide without losing its image quality. And the researchers even hope to increase the screens refresh rate so that it can display video.
This is a major step toward the creation of portable electronic newspapers. Imagine a future where everyone carries around single-sheet electronic newspapers that automatically update wirelessly as news breaks.
