News organizations aren’t the only ones producing great interactive journalism online. Fusionspark Media Inc., an interactive communications firm specializing in documentary and educational web productions, recently won the top prize in the online category of the 2003 Awards for Reporting on the Environment sponsored by the Society of Environmental Journalists and the top web award in the Jackson Hole Wildlife Film Festival, an international wildlife and nature film festival.
The winning entry, ‘Florida’s Springs: Protecting Nature’s Gems,’ is an in-depth photo-documentary Web site focusing on Florida’s freshwater springs and the Floridan aquifer. The Web package includes an interactive tour explaining the journey of water to the springs and an exhaustive amount of information on everything from wildlife recreation to how to save the springs, all organized into easily-readable chunks.
The web production was a companion to the film documentary “The Hidden Rivers of Florida,” which aired on public television nationally in November.
The Florida Springs package also won the top award in the web category of the Jackson Hole Wildlife Film Festival, one of the top wildlife and nature film festivals and draws filmmakers and producers from around the world. Another production by Fusionspark Media, ‘Mercury Rising: Bearing Witness to Climate Change,’ was also a finalist at Jackson Hole.
