The Los Angeles Times launched a redesign today and ended its experiment in charging for calendarlive.com (see post announcing subscription plan), returning it to a free section.

Latimes.com says the moves mark the begining of a “year-long initiative will include continuous improvements to latimes.com and calendarlive.com.”

The home page is now wider, cleaner, easier-to-read and includes more links.

“In coming months, latimes.com will add original Web features and voices that will turn the site’s sections into major online destinations” the editors wrote in a note posted on the site. “As part of that effort, latimes.com will create venues for community interaction across the board ? in news, sports, local issues and activities, entertainment and classifieds marketplaces.”
