Wireless war alerts
Major wireless companies -- AT&T Wireless, Sprint PCS and T-Mobile -- have started offering Iraq war news alerts since the war started and seen a strong interest. Verizon Wireless has been offering wireless text message alerts for a while, but tells The Wall Street Journal that sign ups for alerts containing military and Federal Bureau of Investigation-related news has doubled since January and now numbers "in the thousands" daily. AT&T Wireless sends out photos with its alerts; Sprint PCS customers can get photos and audio clips, too. Some folks have been calling this the first "Internet war." Expect pundits to call the next major conflict the first wireless war.Apr 11, 2003 | E-MAIL | SAVE | PRINT | PERMALINK | DISCUSS(0)
