Internet Changes the Way News Is Gathered
Everyone knows the Internet has changed the way journalists do their job, but now the impact has been measured. The Indiana University School of Journalism American Journalism Survey found: More than 80 percent of journalists use the Web at least once a week to keep up with the news, get background information for stories from the Web or computer databases, and read press releases via e-mail or the Web. And here's an encouraging sign that the Internet has helped connect journalists with their audience: about three-fourths say at least once a week they communicate via e-mail with readers, viewers, or listeners. Also note that journalists still prefer phone or in-person interviews: only 14 percent said they interview sources via e-mail at least weekly.Apr 14, 2003 | E-MAIL | SAVE | PRINT
