FCC proposes easing media ownership rules

The Federal Communications Commission presented proposed changes to media ownership rules to the agency's five commissioners Monday. They are scheduled to vote on June 2 on the changes, which have the potential to reshape the media landscape with further consolidation.

According to The Associated Press, one proposed change allow would a single company to own TV stations that reach 45 percent of U.S. households instead of the current 35 percent. Also under the proposal, cross-ownership of a newspaper and broadcast station -- or a TV and radio station -- would be allowed in large and medium markets, but would face restrictions or bans in small markets.
