Pitfalls of auto-linking text to stock quotes
A number of sites have automated scripts set up to hyperlink stock symbols to the stock quotes, but that can have its pitfalls. A recent story on The New York Times' Web site about desk stretches, for example, mistakenly had the word "Palm" (as in the palm of your hand) linked to the stock information from Palm Inc., the handheld computer maker whose stock ticker is PALM:
