Google cache raises copyright concerns

Google's cached version of pages has long been of great use to Web surfers looking for pages that have changed or been removed from the Web, but they have also raised copyright concerns with publishers. Some Web sites have simply prevented Google from recording its pages by adding code to their sites. Others, though, are now negotiating with Google. NYTimes.com is working with Google so that when you click on a link it will take you to a registration page. "We have established these archived links and want to maintain consistency across all these access points," Christine Mohan, a spokeswoman at The New York Times Digital, tells CNET. This approach makes a lot more sense than simply cutting off a big traffic driver like Google.
