Rafat Ali: Making money, and news, by blogging
Rafat Ali, a former reporter for Inside.com and an editor at the Silicon Alley Reporter, is managing to make a living by blogging about paid content. His site, PaidContent.org, just won a European Online Journalism Award for News Weblog of the Year. He tells Wired News that he expects to make about $60,000-$80,000 from advertising and sponsorship. "If anyone told you life as an independent is easy, well, dream on. If you work for yourself, you're working all the time. But it is the good kind of work, the work you want to wake up to every day."As Wired's Leander Kahney cleverly puts it, "Ali is an unusual beast: a laid-off dot-com reporter who's making money online writing about, well, making money online."
