Chicago Tribune launches first Weblog
The Chicago Tribune has launched its first Web log, "Breaking Views" written by columnist Eric Zorn, who was the first columnist at the paper to invite e-mail from readers in 1993, and the first with his own Web site in 1997.On Zorn's personal site, he's posted a FAQ on why he's doing a Weblog (though it's not clear why the FAQ is on his personal site and not the Tribune's). In it, he says that the blog is "previewed/ reviewed by editors" and that "the war blogs both before and after the invasion of Iraq" prompted him to launch a Web log. "I became an avid reader of many blogs during that time and grew taken with the format," he says. "I could see where it could work well with a print column--incubating and following up on ideas."
He's also planning on trying a few neat experiments: "I'd like to invite guest bloggers to the site either to share the space with me or even take it over for a week or so while I'm on vacation."
