New York Magazine hires blogger
Another writer who has risen to stardom by Weblogging has been snapped up by a media organization. Former Gawker editor Elizabeth Spiers has been hired by New York Magazine to write articles and its first Weblog, "The Kicker," which just launched. In an entry entitled "I sell out" on her personal Weblog, she explained her decision and promised, "I'm still running around to parties with a tape recorder." (Blogosphere rumors had it there was a bidding war for her talents!)
Spiers rose to fame after launching Gawker, a Weblog on NYC society gossip, earlier this year. Gawker continues under new editor Choire Sicha.
Like the Gawker Weblog, The Kicker will cover New York society, entertainment, media, politics and business gossip. Spiers will be filing "'morning after' reports of the previous night's debaucheries." She says, "If Tara Reid falls off a table at Pangea, we're there."
