NY Times archives dating back to 1851
The New York Times now has a complete Article Archive including more than 15 million articles from Sept. 1851 to Dec. 1995. You can search and buy PDF versions of the articles, including their accompanying photos, charts and graphs.
You can purchase articles for $2.95 each. Once you purchase an article from the Article Archive, you view it as often as you like over the next 90 days.
This is a great research resource, and a great way for a site like nytimes.com to try to pull in extra revenue.

4 comments about 'NY Times archives dating back to 1851'I think it's great that they've done the archive, but really, $2.95 is way too expensive, though they do have packages that reduce the per article price. The price point is too high, and prevents the information from becoming something people use all the time, which would really make them some real money. Also, 90 days of use? After you pay three dollars? Paying $3 should give me a lifetime of use of one article. I subscribe to the paper paper for $1.00 a day, and get hundreds of articles, and yet 7 days after publication, they are charging $3 for the same thing online. Does this puzzle anyone else?
This does not make sense to me, other than it reflects the old analog copyright regime, dressed for a digital product.

The NY Times is a great resource of information, heritage, history, so many possibilites!
It is a shame that the hard work that went into Archiving this information, was for one purpose.
Please come up with a reasonable price for unlimited access, for at Least a 30 day period. I am sure you can come up with some sort of download blocker. If someone, wants to fill up their house with all that printed material, I hope they have good fire insurance! I am sure you have a legal system in place, for the criminals that steal the information for their own gain!
Don't forget the inside traders!
Are you really making it now, with the present terms, and prices???
Thank you for the opportunity to Post!
