TVW.org: Pioneer in posting editorial board interview videos online
Posting video of editorial board interviews with candidates online is becoming more common (see postings on The New York Times and SFGate.com), but is not entirely new.
This was done as long ago as Aug. 12, 1996, when the Seattle Post-Intelligencer editorial board interviewed gubernatorial candidates and videotaped the interviews. The video was broadcast on TVW, Washington State's Public Affairs Network, and the audio posted on TVW's Web site.
The following year, TVW.org posted the video clips of five interviews the P-I's editorial board conducted on local initiatives and races in September 1997. You can watch the first one, the complete interview with representatives for both pro and con sides of Initiative 673, by clicking here.
Impressively, the P-I has continued to let TVW videotape its editorial board interviews every year since, though TVW.org has only been posting audio online in recent years.
Another publication that Webcast an editorial board interview video that long ago was the Spokane Spokesman Review. TVW also taped this interview with mayoral candidates for the city of Spokane in September 1997 and published the full video on its Web site.
In May 2000, The Honolulu Star-Bulletin Editorial Board met with Kamehameha Schools trustees and posted the audio online.
The Washington Post has also posted audio clips of interviews with politicians several times (though none could be found still online).
More recently, the three candidates for the Democratic Party nomination for Wisconsin governor met with the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel Editorial Board in 2002 and the paper's Web site posted audio from each of them in a series of endorsement interviews, in advance of the primary election.
