Simultaneous media usage

Three quarters of U.S. television viewers read the newspaper while they watch TV, and two thirds of them go online while they watch TV, according to a study of simultaneous media consumption released today by The Media Center at the American Press Institute.

I'm not surprised about the online/television thing at all - especially with those "surveys" and such being suggested during news and sports programming...

Most GenX and younger adults I know grew up doing homework with the TV or radio or stereo on. Many people work with radio or TV or chatter in the background, either by choice or owing to the configuration of their workplaces. So the study results strike me as an extension of a venerable trend.
