Eppy finalists announced

The finalists for the 2004 EPpy Awards, which honor the best new media work by media companies, were announced today. Here is the list of finalists. Note that "due to the overwhelming number of entries this year, some categories have more than three finalists." The winners will be announced May 12.

One finalist of particular note -- Google News in the category of Best Internet News Service over 1 million monthly visitors. Very interesting choice.

Google News won the 2003 Webby Award in the news category. But this is the first time it's a finalist in a major online journalism award. And in the same category that washingtonpost.com is a finalist in...

Google News is a great site, but it doesn't deserve to win. No "news" site that occasionally leads with press releases does.
