Effective online news promotion
Four good ideas from an RTNDA panel that Cory Bergman passes on:
1. You must deliver something unique on the Web that adds value to the viewer experience. Otherwise, nobody will feel compelled to visit the web after watching the story on TV.
2. You must give viewers specific reasons to go the Web site. "For more information" doesn't cut it. Show bullet points, for example.
3. Show them where it is on the Web. People are visual. Show the screen and click on the link.
4. Illustrate your Web site's usefulness at work. WorldNow's Sandhi Kozsuch had a great line for morning newscasts: "While you're at work today, follow the latest developments online..."
