Ted Koppel vs. Iraq victims databases: Medium is the Message

Whether or not you think Ted Koppel was making a political statement when he solemnly read aloud the names of American soldiers killed in the Iraq war during Friday's "Nightline," there's no question that the impact is very different than that from the various news sites that have posted casualty databases online.

This is really a case of Medium is the Message: Koppel reading the names online to anyone who choses to watch his show -- for the entire show -- is much more of a statement than a news site that has been logging the names of victims in a database that's available for anyone who's interested, but not forced upon the audience in quite the same way.

Their is a bill pending in the House and Senate...HR163...draft. All 18 to 26 year olds would be up for the draft. Student would be allowed to finish their semester. No escape to Canada! Women and men, two years service. Hoping to pass it AFTER the elections. Why no news on this, why no debate....what, are they going to pass it quietly one night?
