Advance.net May Sell Ads Across New Network of Local News Blogs

Advance.net is considering selling ads across its network of weblogs to local advertisers who can't afford Advance.net dailies, such as The Newark Star-Ledger and Trenton Times, this week's issue of Advertising Age reports.

Advance.net's NJ.com, meanwhile, is now using Meetup.org to recruit bloggers to help cover local news by reporting on neighborhood items like soccer leagues and recycling rules.

Smart moves.

"Advance.net's plans are another sign of how blogs are becoming entrenched in the mainstream media landscape," AdAge writes. "It helps that logorrheic buzzmachine.com blogger Jeff Jarvis is Advance.net's president and creative director."

Of course, it's too bad, considering Jarvis' own status as a blogger, that Advance's weblogs don't offer comments, and Advance's newspaper websites are notorious for being a pain to use.
