Tribune Web sites go down

Tribune Company Web sites suffered severe technical problems Thursday, with several sites down and others displaying brief messages about the problem, Editor and Publisher reports.

"This afternoon the primary systems at our newspaper and television station Web sites experienced technical difficulties," company spokeswoman Christine Hennessey told E&P. "We have switched to secondary systems and, along with our hosting providers, are actively investigating the cause of these problems."

Sites down or offering only limited content included those of the Chicago Tribune, Newsday, the Los Angeles Times, The Baltimore Sun, the South Florida Sun-Sentinel of Fort Lauderdale, and The Hartford (Conn.) Courant.
