How should you teach convergence?

Educators still haven't figured out how to teach convergence -- or even if they should be teaching it, Elizabeth Birge reports in SPJ's Quill.

Jack Zibluk, an associate professor and photojournalism coordinator at Arkansas State University, surveyed photo editors in Arkansas and found that convergence was "not a big deal for them."

The top three most-desired skills he found were how to use a digital camera, a basic camera and knowledge of law and ethics. Other items topping the list included knowledge of Photoshop, people skills, reporting skills and basic writing skills.

"We’re looking for folks with an interest in convergence and hopefully exposure in more than one area, but that doesn't necessarily disqualify them if they don't," says Beverly Dominick, the news recruiting and training manager at the Tampa Tribune.
