Bloggers to get credentialed at Democratic National Convention
Democratic officials are going to give credentials to a select number of bloggers for the Democratic National Convention in Boston in July.
This is a real landmark for the legitimacy of bloggers -- and a testament to their growing influence.
DNC officials have not determined how many credentials will be issued, but said they will be chosen based on their professionalism, the number of readers who check their blog on a regular basis, and how much of their content is original.
Meanwhile, not to be outdone themselves, the Democratics have launched their own Weblog to cover the National Convention is going high-tech, with the official launch of a weblog, or "blog."
Democratic officials said they hope doing so will help engage a wider array of Americans in the July 26 to 29 Boston event.
"We hope to bring back to political conventions something of the spirit of the early American democracy, the wide-ranging, freewheeling, and raucous discussions about the state of the nation and the state of the party," Matt Stoller, the DNC's Blog Community Coordinator, wrote in his first posting.
