Great interactive map showing what people call soft drinks county-by-county across America. It's from East Central University in Oklahoma... Why didn't a news site think of this first?

Because it's too trivial. There's no 'there' there.

That said, the same technique could (and should) be applied to other demographic research (say, teen pregnancy rates or unemployment).
