Wired News: Suicide 101
Julia Scheeres' series on suicide for Wired News has now been a finalist for two major awards, the 2003 Online Journalism Awards and now the 2003 IRE awards. Her series investigated alt.suicide.holiday, an online newsgroup focused on depression and suicide, and revealed that almost two dozen group participants who posted messages saying they were on the verge of suicide were encouraged to take their own lives by other group members. Scheeres writes about several former group members who committed suicide and includes excerpts from their online writings and videos.

Scheeres didn't do much research on her story. Here's what the this so-called journalist missed when doing background checks on the only newsgroup participant Scheeres chose to interview:

For Julia Scheeres.
It's been Bob Griffin who has published all this hatred about you on Usenet and on the Internet. If you want to read what this guy, Griffin, is really like, then read the Magnus Pym FAQ.

"Some one" aka Patrick Michael Sullivan is the Defendant in a libel trial. He is being sued by me for cyber stalking, libel, and false light invasion of privacy. The case is S42823 before the Supreme Court of British Columbia, in Nanaimo.
