24-hour news channel sites win Murrows
Brian Benschoter, the general manager of News 8 Austin, points out that both of the local TV Web awards in this year's Murrows were won by Time Warner 24 hour local news channels (www.capitalnews9.com and www.news14charlotte.com). Traditional TV broadcasters were shut out in the local category. Perhaps this is a sign that local cable networks have an advantage when competing online.
Benschoter also points out that the content management tool used by both sites was built in Austin at News 8 and is used by seven of the company's local news channels.
