Wireless Election Connection
You might remember the Wireless Election Connection from February, where a squad of student journalists armed with picture phones covered the South Carolina primary via mobile Weblog. The WEC is back -- this time at the Democratic and Republican conventions. Four student journalists from the University of South Carolina and four from Northeastern University are in Boston, both inside and outside the Fleet Center, moblogging the convention.

University of South Carolina professor Doug Fisher, the project's coordinator, is blogging from inside the newsroom at Common Sense Journalism,
providing an inside look at how this comes together.

Just to clarify and give credit where credit is due, the Newsplex/Cingular Wireless Election Connection used two journalists-in-training from Northeastern University and two from Emerson College in addition to the four from the University of South Carolina. Doug Fisher was the lead newsflow coordinator for the Democratic National Convention coverage and led the editorial team based at the Ifra Newsplex at the University of South Carolina in Columbia. (One of his other numerous activities outside of his professorial duties is the Common Sense Journalism blog at http://commonsensej.blogspot.com.) The WEC project is being coordinated by Randy Covington, who was the lead storybuilder in Boston managing our mobile multiskilled reporters and who has also just been named the new director of the Ifra Newsplex facility in South Carolina.
