Profits up for local Web sites

Local online advertising moved from high-growth status to "boom" in the first half of 2004, Borrell Associates says in its latest client memo. Paid Search companies pursuing local revenues saw up to 140% increases in revenue compared with the first half of 2003. Daily newspapers are averaging 43% growth, and virtually all have become profitable. One large chain reported 100% growth of its Internet revenues in the first two quarters of 2004. Local broadcast TV Web sites are on track to grow revenued 70% this year, though on a comparatively small base.
