Boston.com goes purple
Someone at Boston.com is definitely excited about Prince's tour coming to Boston this week. Today, the Boston Globe's site redesigned its masthead in purple, with Prince's logo replacing the dot in Boston.com. Even more clever, under the More Weather link to the right is the line, "Expect Purple Rain," with a link to the site's Prince package.
"I was amused," says Chad Capellman, the Managing Editor for The Media Center at The American Press Institute, "but I thought its strongest point is it told me a story without me reading one."
UPDATE (8/18): Boston.com has been modifying its home page from time to time since its launch back in 1995, long before Google became known for similarly modifying its logo for holidays and events. Some other examples from Boston.com's history: Halloween; Mother's Day; Frozen Four Hockey Tournament; and the Sox Home Opener.
