NewsOK.com's redesign

NewsOK.com, the impressive converged Web site of The Oklahoman and NEWS9, has launched an extensive redesign.

Kelly Dyer, NewsOK.com's general manager, tells CyberJournalist.net, "We were due for a redesign. We took info from Mori's Power User study and incorporated many of the findings. We made weather more dominant and added more utility to the homepage. We were reaching for improved nav and functionality. The horizontal nav serves up a plethora of links from any page of the site. We have gotten good feedback. Stats show our traffic has increased.

"The page, though larger in K size, loads more quickly after the initial load. The template carries throughout the site and can be altered at one access point. We overhauled our content management piece and gave editors access to edit the page they are currently on. The site relies heavily on tab/horizontal navigation. We use PHP which brings us more flexibility.

"We've gotten good reception from all parties: adv., ed., and promotion. We actually have more ad avails."
