Great work: Backyard Blog project
Gmail Great Work Award Winner: The Seattle Times' Backyard Blog election project CyberJournalist.net mentioned in early July has officially launched. The grass-roots campaign coverage effort for the election gives more than a dozen selected contributors under the age of 35 blogs on seattletimes.com and even occassionally includes their content in the newspaper.
Seattletimes.com senior producer Lucy Mohl tells CyberJournalist.net she's been surprised at how high the quality of the writing has been and how much positive response the site has gotten.
"It's taken off for us, with a lot of traffic and feedback, people wanting to join in, etc," she says. "So, we'll be opening up another round for interested bloggers as the election season progresses (including over-35's). I think this is an experiment that points to much more community-based blogging in the future."
For this great idea, Lucy wins a free Gmail account from CyberJournalist.net.
