New Yorker posts Monkey Bowl's humorous 'Al Gore' tune, but buries it
This is hilarious. The latest political humor making the rounds online — and the best since JibJab's "This Land!" — is the song "Al Gore" by Monkey Bowl, from The New Yorker (click to listen). New Yorker editor David Remnick describes the song in a profile of former Vice President Al Gore, written by his friend and neighbor, Robert Orrall, and was smart enough to put the song online.
Fantastic use of the Web.
Well, kinda. Here's the not-so-hilarious part. Even though the song is described and quoted extensively in the magazine, nowhere does it mention that the song is available online. Nor is it mentioned on The New Yorker's home page. Not only that, but it's not even highlighted on the story page. You have to scroll down 17 screens — more than 3,200 words — to find a subtle link to the song!

I'm Bob Something, and my band is Monkey Bowl, and I just want to thank you for the blurb about our song "Al Gore". We were thrilled to get the press but people really had to work to find our website, www.infinitycat.com, which is an internet-distributed record label with 19 artists owned by 2 teenagers, one in Nashville TN and one in Olympia WA. This week, there was a segment on "To The Best Of Our Knowledge" on NPR about the song. Again, great publicity but no mention of the site! Then Sat. night we performed with Steve Earle on the Michael Moore Slacker Uprising tour, and we forgot to mention the site to an arena full of applauding-like-crazy people. So I guess we're in the same boat as the New Yorker! Anyway, thanks for the mention.
