Citizen journalist photography
WestportNow.com, a small site covering Westport, Conn., published an interesting "2004 Year in Pictures" feature this week. What's interesting about it is who shot the photos: More than 50 citizen journalist photographers contributed to the feature, which includes nearly 400 photos.
WestportNow.com Editor Gordon Joseloff tells CyberJournalist.net, "Through their eyes, WestportNow was often exclusive on the scene of many Westport events, including an early morning Christmas Day fire that almost devastated a Westport landmark. (See echoditto.com for one reader's reaction.) WestportNow's traffic has soared throughout the year and is gearing up for even bigger and better coverage in 2005.
For a behind-the-scenes look at Westport Now, read this special feature Joseloff wrote for CyberJournalist.net in 2003.
For another approach to citizen journalist photography, the Ventura County Star has a new community photo blog in partnership with Buzznet.com, inviting the community to help document "what's going on in and around Ventura County." Interesting idea for small local papers like the Star.
