Blogging, citizen journalism and print converge in New West Network
Jonathan Weber, the former editor of The Industry Standard, has launched a new Web site about the Rocky Mountain West, New West Network, incorporating a blog written by a team of writers, a citizen journalism section that any readers can contribute to, and a monthly print magazine that will launch next year.
"New West is a network of online communities devoted to the culture, economy, politics, environment and overall atmosphere of the Rocky Mountain West," the site says. "... on our Web sites you will find commentary and original reportage that follows this mission. You will also find places where you, the reader, can and should have a voice through our Citizen Journalism sites."
Anyone can register to start blogging on the citizen journalism pages. "Each day, our editors will be scanning and enjoying the Citizen Journalism pages and if we see something we like, we'll bump it up to one of our main pages or link to it in one of our blog posts," the site says. "If we find a Citizen Journalist we think is doing a superb job writing and expanding our views on the issues we're covering, we may just give the Citizen Journalist access to blog directly to one of our main pages."
