First online journalist cited in Pulitzer?
The first online journalist to be cited in a Pulitzer Prize-winning package may have been Meredith Artley of NYTimes.com, who was cited as part of The New York Times team that won the national reporting prize for "Race in America" in 2001.
According to nytimes.com's Naka Nathaniel, the race project -- including the online work -- was submitted in the Public Service category, the only category where online submissions are eligible. However, the committee moved it into the National Reporting category -- making the online part of the submission ineligible according to the Pulitzer rules.
Despite this techinicality, Artley appears in official list and photo of winners and also has a framed official certificate tucked away, Nathaniel says.
