Newsroom transparency

San Francisco Chronicle deputy ME John Curley posted photos on Flickr showing the editorial staff preparing Pope coverage for the Sunday paper.

"The glimmer of transparency got me thinking," says Lost Remote's Cory Bergman. "On selected big stories, TV station websites should post pictures and even video of the behind-the-scenes scramble in the newsroom. Of course, the pics and video should be edited carefully for sensitivity (Curley's picture of the three with their arms in the air would be a poor choice for public consumption), but the resulting transparency would build a stronger bond with an increasingly skeptical public."

What I was TRYING to say was that newsrooms are the ultimate t.v. reality show. People could watch the news before it becomes news. Sensitive topics could be broached under first amendment rights, newsrooms could break stories first, rather than sub-editors, editors and headline writers. Call the whole thing "Without Prejudice" or "Without fear or flavour" or whatever you like!
