The Annotated New York Times

A handy new site worth checking out is The Annotated New York Times, which tracks blog postings that cite articles published by The New York Times.

Among the things you can do with this site: track what the blogosphere is saying about a specific article; track commentary related to all New York Times coverage of specific topics; and track commentary that discusses articles by specific New York Times.

"These blog fragments are grouped by author or by topic to form virtual, distributed conversations that span multiple sites and that center around the coverage of news events as reported by the Times," as the site describes it.

Another interesting feature: The New York Times provides only a limited number of RSS feeds, but this site is offering more than 6,000 feeds that track NY Times articles by topic or author.

The site is built by BlogRunner, which builds aggregation sites that integrate media and blogs and that track breaking stories as they propagate across the web.

(Thanks to Steve Rubel for the pointer)
