WestportNow sets photo record
Thanks to an army of contributing photographers, WestPort Now, the citizen media site that covers Westport, Conn., posted 140 photographs of Westport's Memorial Day parade and other holiday events at the end of last month, a record.
WestportNow.com publisher Gordon Joseloff tells CyberJournalist.net, "Checked your list of citizen media sites to see how they covered local Memorial Day activities, in light of the item below. Couldn't find a one that had pictures/coverage of their Memorial Day activites. Hard to believe. Meanwhile, WestportNow and its corps of citizen journalists were out in force, posting 140 pictures (admittedly some better than others) within hours of the parade and other events. It's a record for us, of which we are proud....
"Twenty photographers submitted almost 250 photographs," he said. "We launched a special photo gallery feature to accommodate the photos. This is the most photos we've published of any one event since our start more than two years ago.
"Unfortunately, we were not able to use all of them, but we are grateful to Westporters for taking time to share their photos with our readers. Thanks to them, WestportNow continues to set the pace among citizen journalism efforts on the Internet."

Perhaps I'm missing something, but this is significant why? Go back to 1999, Indymedia had a "citizen's media" site that had hundreds of photos (as well as video, audio and text) posted of the Seattle WTO protest. And its been doing it ever since, with over 150 local branches. You may want to check out Indymedia Bolivia (bolivia.indymedia.org) where citizen journalists are documenting the uprising by the impoverished indigenous population which is poised to topple the president.
