Newspaper of the future
The New York Times is the latest to heap praise on the Lawrence Journal-World for its convergence efforts. Now just about everyone has.
Since Rob Curley took over the online operation three years ago, the newspaper's Web sites have gone from 500,000 page views a month to 7 million and from losing about $15,000 a month to near-profitability. Still, online revenue comprises only about 1.5 percent of World's total revenue.
Another tidbit: About a third of the 18 employees in the online operation are interns.
Story also includes a nice graphic looking at how people prefer to get their news.
