The P-I's Virtual Editorial Board

Here's an interesting experiment in using the Internet to involve readers: The Seattle Post-Intelligencer has launched a "Virtual Editorial Board," using its Web site to incorporate users opinions into the newspaper's editorials -- before they are published!

Editorial page editor Mark Trahant writes:

Here's how it works. Every day the Editorial Board meets at 9 a.m. and debates issues to comment about. After that meeting, one of us will post the ideas that we have decided to write about.

Those ideas will then be open for reader comment -- before we write a word. From time to time, we will quote in the paper from someone who posts a comment online Or we might print those comments as an instant response.

I can imagine that we might even have to rethink our position occasionally.

Here's today's Virtual Editorial Board topics.
