Houston Chronicle recruits bloggers to help cover storm
The Houston Chronicle set up a special Weblog to cover Hurricane Rita written by about a dozen hand-picked readers — and posted unedited.
"One of the benefits to blogs is that they tend to be more personal, they tend to provide more the emotional feel of an event," said Dwight Silverman, the Chronicle's interactive journalism editor, told The Associated Press. "In traditional reporting you put on your poker face and do your writing. ... It's not supposed to be the writer's emotions."
Silverman said the newspaper picked experienced bloggers from the area whom editors thought would be civil, lively and informative.
The Chronicle also set up a second group blog for its own staff writers.
