How reader postings can lead to news stories

On the "Citizen Journalism" site Bluffton Today, a user named "Charlie" recently wrote: "ANYONE I ASK HAS NO ANSWER. WHO IS PAYING FOR THE POLICE I SEE EVERY NIGHT IN THE FRONT OF THE NEW MOVIE CONSTRUCTION SITE IN POLICE CARS?????"

Steve Yelvington of Morris Digital Works (which oversees the site) says the post drew several quick community responses and led police reporter Erinn McGuire to do a followup story on the use of off-duty police officers by businesses to meet private security needs. "In my view, that's a perfectly legitimate way for the process to work," Yelvington writes. "Citizens and professionals can both play interactive roles."
