Bloggers say blah to White House briefings

Since the Jeff Gannon saga first erupted last winter, the expected wave of bloggers in the daily White House briefing room has not appeared. The lack of new blood is a shame, argues Joe Strupp, because many have particular areas of obsession or expertise that can lead to unusual, and often good, questions.

Mark Smith the lack of interest may stem from the fact that the press briefings are not all that interesting, and can be seen on C-SPAN, with transcripts on the Web: "Maybe bloggers have better things to do, after the novelty has worn off."

the day Helen Thomas left the White House press corps began a steady erosion of standards for accountability. Every press confernce requires probing questions. Why are journalist afraid to ask them?
