Flickr, Buzznet expand citizens' role in news sites
OJR's Mark Glaser looks at how photo-sharing services such as Flickr and Buzznet are offering a way for journalists and news sites to expand their photography. NYT Magazine columnist Rob Walker is doing a photo project on Flickr, collecting images around the country of MLK Boulevards. Boston Globe technology editor DC Denison has used Flickr to find photos from a tech conference to illustrate a print story. And Buzznet has licensed its photo sharing service to 15 newspaper sites to help them cover breaking news or hyper-local events. The Augusta Chronicle has even enlisted 20 photography interns to shoot smaller happenings for its Spotted site, which now gets 1 million page views per month.
