Newspaper launches HamptonRoads.tv
The Virginian-Pilot has launched a video-only Web site named HamptonRoads.tv, one of the more ambitious attempts at producing online video for a newspaper site.
The site will include video of local entertainment, news, sports, traffic, local life, music, movie previews and more, produced for Hampton Roads residents by Hampton Roads residents. By combining the most-visited content areas of the company’s other sites with the most-watched kinds of video, HamptonRoads.tv will offer the sight, sound and motion of video and the control and choice provided by the Internet.Users will be able to select videos by content category, with selections from HamptonRoads.tv videographers as well as those from The Virginian-Pilot and other sources. They will be able to rate local videos as they watch them, and will be able to share the video with friends or associates by emailing a link. The community is invited to participate by submitting video as well.
In keeping with the technology industry’s trend of engaging the community in the development of new products, HamptonRoads.tv is launching as a beta site. This means the product will grow and change with input from the user community. As new content areas are added or changed, users will participate – giving feedback and shaping the site for the future.
