How Inquirer is adapting to the times
Interesting look at how the Philadelphia Inquirer is adapting to the rise of the internet and the faster news cycle, from editor Amanda Bennett.
For example, here's how the newspaper handled the Supreme Court ruling on Oregon's assisted suicide law:
In the past, a straight news story about that ruling might have led the paper. Instead, that story, which occurred early in the day, led our Web site, Philly.com, soon after the story broke. On our front page the next day, we featured an exclusive analysis by Michael Vitez, whose years of expertise in writing about end-of-life issues made him the ideal reader's guide on the national impact of the ruling. The straight news story itself, which had been readily available on television and wires the day before, went inside the paper.
